Obama later shifted his focus from celebrating the 100th anniversary of the national parks system to climate change.

The United States Postal Service teamed up with National Park Service officials to release 16 stamps featuring a view from a national park or a related plant, animal or structure. Another two hours west of Valley Forge is Gettysburg, the home to the NPS National Military Park recalling the Battle of Gettysburg – the Civil War’s bloodiest battle that was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln’s immortal “Gettysburg Address”. National parks were originally created to help preserve wildlife and the Indian civilization as eastern settlements spread westward.

Conservation was a radical idea until the stroke of the pen from our 28th president.

The Secretary of the Interior will spend the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service in Montana. It’s quite astonishing the vast number of the 6 million people within a 75-mile radius of the islands, from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles Counties, who have not actually visited one of the most unique parks in the park service, given its eight islands, kelp forests, historical buildings, backstories and even the accomplishment of rehabilitating endangered species, including the island fox.

Fortunately for the grass, the Mall won’t be the only place to celebrate the Park Service’s birthday in the D.C. region.

All 413 national parks will offer free admission from August 25-28.

It’s crucial that the National Park System continues to represent America as we continue making and telling our national story; providing and preserving a park system by which future generations will be inspired. The National Park Service celebrates its 100th birthday Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016.

At the Seashore, visitors can attend a special sunrise observance at Playalinda Beach in Brevard County or watch the sunset during festivities at the Apollo entrance south of New Smyrna Beach, said Avia Woulard, an interpretive ranger at the park.

“We’ll also have the last of our centennial concerts at 6 p.m. when the Native American band Brule performs”, said Park Ranger of Interpretation Joe Giddens. Almost all the NPS properties have deferred short- and long-term maintenance needs.

The small but apparently growing thought that states should control public lands is particularly disturbing. His portrayal of the 26th president earned him first place in national living history competitions in 2011, 2012, and 2013. It’s about state parks, local parks, trails, museums, historic sites, towns and communities and the many ways that the American public can connect with history and culture, enjoy nature and make new discoveries. In May, the Seattle Council unanimously passed a resolution expressing the city’s fervent support for the designation of a National Park for Stonewall, and we quickly had Mayor Ed Murray’s strong support. In 2015, Virginia’s national parks generated more than $980 million in visitor spending.
